Attorney Overview

Our firm specializes in litigation, but engages in virtually every area of the law including complex corporate and real property related transactions. For your convenience, a comprehensive list of the firm’s practice areas can be found on this site.

The firm’s litigation practice involves a three-tiered approach to each case: first, delve into pre-litigation matters to ensure the client is positioned effectively and to understand the opposing party’s posture; second, initiate litigation or attend arbitration (if necessary) and aggressively negotiate as the litigation progresses; and third, aggressively pursue our client’s interest subsequent to litigation until a satisfactory result is obtained. Using this method, the firm has successfully resolved claims and cases valued at millions of dollars.

Even though real estate related transactions are not as common as they once were, our transactional attorneys have been involved in matters relating to hundreds of millions of dollars of real property and assets since the firm’s inception. Fundamental to our transactional practice is the acquisition and disposition of every conceivable type of real estate asset, including raw land, commercial, retail, office, industrial, master-planned residential, multifamily and mixed-use projects, and including all of the legal aspects of the finance, design and construction process associated with property.

What sets Shumway Van & Hansen apart from other law firms has to do with the quality of relationships, both with clients and within the firm. The dichotomy of the firm is as follows: the firm’s vast resources enable the firm to handle the most challenging and sophisticated matters; the firm’s personal approach allows recognition and appreciation of the individuality of clients, attorneys, and staff.
