Patent Attorney Keith Vick

Keith Vick is admitted to practice law in Colorado and before the USPTO. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Mr. Vick worked as an engineer in semiconductor and test and measurement industries for about ten years. After gaining experience as an engineer, Mr. Vick worked for a small patent law firm for about 3 years drafting patent applications and responses to Office Actions. He has a BSME from the University of Texas at Austin, a MSEE from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and a JD from Fordham University.

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in the 90s, Mr. Vick went to work for Applied Materials at their newly established campus in Austin, Texas. While employed with Applied Materials Mr. Vick did hands on work on various subcomponents of the P5000 system including the RF match (this later motivated Mr. Vick to studying electromagnetics), endpoint systems, cable and pneumatic sub-assemblies, and etch chambers. During this time Mr. Vick worked with manufacturing teams to reduce module test times as well as inspection costs.

After a period of time in manufacturing, Mr. Vick began working for Applied Materials as a Field Service Engineer working on various Centura platforms. Notably, Mr. Vick was toolset owner of 2 Centura DPS systems at a semiconductor company in Colorado Springs. During this time, Mr. Vick installed two additional Centura DPS systems. The work involved in maintaining and improving the uptime performance of these tools included diagnosing DI/O & AI/O circuits, calibrating wafer handling robots, changing out cathodes from chambers, and cutting apart cable bundles to locate a stress failure in a small copper wire. The skill set required to perform this work varied considerably but included knowledge of basic digital logic, AC/DC power systems, high-powered microwave/RF delivery systems, and plasma physics.

It was during this period of working for Applied Materials in Colorado Springs that Mr. Vick began to work on a MSEE degree at the University of Colorado Springs. Mr. Vick often worked 50-60 hour weeks while attending two classes a semester.

In 2000 Mr. Vick left Applied Materials to work for Agilent Technologies in their Design Validation Unit that designed oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. While employed by Agilent Technologies, Mr. Vick moved from a supplier management position to a position performing EMC tests on oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. Mr. Vick also performed various other tests such as environmental testing per internal company standards as well as testing power supplies for safety issues.

In 2003, Mr. Vick obtained his MSEE degree which emphasized electromagnetics as well as communications. His thesis was on the high-speed electrical properties of a BGA socket used in probing logic circuits.

After obtaining his degree, Mr. Vick worked for the Intel Corporation in Colorado Springs for about a year. During this time, he transferred a high-speed wafer test module from Oregon to Colorado Springs. Transferring the module involved coordinating various internal entities such as facilities, safety, electricians, and research and development. Shortly after transferring the test platform, Mr. Vick left Intel and moved to New York to attend law school and work for a patent law firm in 2005.

While in New York, Mr. Vick worked during the day at a patent law firm drafting patent applications and responses to Office Actions. At night Mr. Vick attended Fordham University. After graduating from Fordham law school 2009, Mr. Vick relocated back to Colorado Springs and began a solo practice. During this period, Mr. Vick represented indigent litigants through Colorado Legal Services.

Although Mr. Vick is licensed to practice law in Colorado, he is limiting his practice to prosecuting patents before the USPTO.
