North Carolina Bicycle Accidents

by Phyllis Lile-King (Overdose Law )

Increasingly, cyclists in North Carolina are at risk of injury and death, simply from riding legally on the roads. News reports indicate that bicycle accidents are at an all-time high. Often, accidents involving a bicycle and a motor vehicle, result in serious injury of death. To protect yourself while biking NC roads, always wear a helmet, obey all laws, and use your hand signals. Drivers can often avoid the risk of crashing into a cyclist by not following too closely, passing with a wide margin, only when there is no oncoming traffic, and staying alert when driving near cyclists. Cyclists often try to drive near the shoulder, but debris, rough areas or sudden loss of the shoulder may force a cyclist to come back into the driving lane unexpectedly. Drivers and cyclists should take care to share the road. For more detailed information about NC laws affecting cyclists and drivers, go to www.MyBikeLaw.net
