He acts for both public and private international and domestic clients in a wide variety of sectors including mining, energy, cleantech, media, manufacturing and telecommunications. His experience in the corporate finance area includes advising issuers and underwriters on public and private offerings of debt and equity securities, both domestically and cross-border, with an emphasis on offerings in the mining and precious metals sector as well as offerings in the income trust sector. He is also advising project developers, landowners, equipment suppliers, mezzanine financiers, banks, private equity funds and angel investors on the myriad of legal issues around renewable energy developments, specifically in relation to the Ontario Power Authority’s Feed-In Tariff Program.

Chapter 7, also known as a “straight” or “liquidation” bankruptcy is a method by which a person or business can obtain a FRESH START by eliminating most debt. A DEBTOR who is overwhelmed by debt can look to bankruptcy in order to obtain relief. Once the debtor receives a discharge then the debts (with some exceptions) scheduled in Bankruptcy no longer need to be repaid.

When a petition is filed under Chapter 7 an entity is created called the Bankruptcy Estate. The Bankruptcy Estate consists of everything you own including real estate, personal property and intangible assets. The estate further includes anything you might inherit within a certain time period.
