Attorney Overview
Richard Jaffe worked as a paralegal for several respected litigators, including his mentor and future law partner, Stephen Cohen, before attending law school. After earning his law degree from Touro Law Center on Long Island in 1995, he came aboard our firm as an associate attorney and became a junior partner within five years.
Today Richard is the managing partner and a driving force of the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe LLP. He is our lead trial lawyer, overseeing three associate attorneys and a support staff in our successful practice in personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death.
In addition to 17 years of focused legal representation, Richard has a background as a firefighter and certified EMT (emergency medical technician) and still works a weekly shift as a volunteer medic in Brentwood. He is acutely familiar with the traumatic impact of auto collisions and other accidents on the victim and family members, and likewise has uncommon insight into the medical issues, all of which enables him to advocate more effectively in pursuit of maximum compensation.
Richard Jaffe has handled thousands of accident cases. He is a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum for achieving numerous settlements or verdicts in excess of $1 million. He is rated AV Preeminent* through the Martindale-Hubbell peer review system and listed in 2012 New York Super Lawyers in recognition of his professional standards and consistently favorable results.
Richard is licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia, including federal courts of New York. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Nassau County Bar Association, New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Mr. Jaffe is also bilingual, speaking fluent Spanish.
