Wes is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law where he attended on a trial advocacy scholarship. Wes was President of the Madison County Bar Association from 2008-2009. He is also a member of the Kentucky Justice Association as well as an appointed member of the City of Richmond Ethics Commission.

In 2009, Wes, along with a local judge, founded the Madison County C.A.R.E. (Credit Abuse Resistance Education) program and he also serves on the local crime prevention board.
